A puppet ray was a type of energy beam that was capable of transforming humanoids into puppets.

One of the automated defenses on Hauze's ship was a hologram of Kerner Hauze that shot two puppet rays from its eyes. In 2381, Lieutenant Kayshon was transformed into a puppet by these rays, an experience he described as "Zinda, his eyes red" ("painful" in Tamarian). The effect was later reversed by Doctor T'Ana, who had encountered a similar phenomenon at least once before.

When Ensign Brad Boimler returned to the USS Cerritos following his demotion on the USS Titan, he eagerly asked to hear more about the puppet ray. (LD: "Kayshon, His Eyes Open")
