A psychic mine was an illicit mind scanner found on Jengus IV that could read one's deepest desires and create an illusion based on that fantasy. Physical contact with the illusion caused the victim to turn into a stone statue. Destruction of a mine brought forth an illusion of one's worst nightmare.

In 2381, psychic mines were responsible for turning at least three Outpost 76 scientists into stone statues. Personnel from the USS Carlsbad and USS Cerritos were dispatched to dispose of the mines on Jengus IV. (LD: "Mining The Mind's Mines")
