The protractor was a handheld tool used for measuring or drawing angles. It was a flat semi-circular piece of plastic or metal graduated into degrees.

In 2380, a protractor was in a crate of art supplies that Beckett Mariner had brought down from the USS Cerritos to the surface of Beta III. She was handing out the supplies to Betan children. As she became more angry with Brad Boimler, the crate she was holding was shaken violently by her releasing its contents, including this protractor, onto the ground. (LD: "No Small Parts")
