Protected memory

Protected memory was memory in a computer core protected from editing or erasure.

The consciousness of Professor James Moriarty was stored in a programming sequence which was contained in protected memory for four years, until Reginald Barclay opened the sequence in 2369. (TNG: "Ship In A Bottle")
