Proprietary rights

Proprietary rights were one's rights to use any property they possessed however they chose.

In 2372, after being asked to leave a seat in USS Defiant's mess hall open for Worf, Julian Bashir protested that his living on the Defiant didn't give him proprietary rights to the mess hall. Jadzia Dax agreed, explaining that it was the Klingon's favorite seat. (DS9: "To the Death")
