Promontory

A promontory was a high point of land or rock that would extend out into a body of water or lowland.

According to Calvin Hutchinson, the commander of the Arkaria Base, there was a network of trails through the plains, with one of the trails leading to a southern promontory where there were nesting grounds for the Arkarian horn fowls. (TNG: "Starship Mine")
