Power-washing was the use of a sonic device that was designed to remove dirt or soot from walls or surfaces.

In 2381 Ensign Beckett Mariner joined an away team that was performing a second contact mission on Apergos. Her purpose there was for a side mission that she got her mother to approve, which was to power-wash the soot off of the old buildings in one of the public spaces on the planet.

The removal of the soot from the buildings had an unforeseen consequence, however, as an ancient machine was uncovered, giving Commander Jack Ransom god-like powers. (LD: "Strange Energies")
