Photonic ship scrubber

A photonic ship scrubber was a type of robot used aboard the USS Protostar that was utilized for cleaning the exterior of the starship; among its cleaning modes were a full disinfection mode. These devices were not considered among the ship's high-priority systems.

Hologram Janeway deployed the photonic ship scrubbers to detach the vines that were holding the ship in place on Murder Planet in 2383. (PRO: "Terror Firma")

When Dal R'El, Rok-Tahk, Jankom Pog, Gwyndala, Murf, Zero, and Maj'el were taken to the USS Prodigy, photonic ship scrubbers appeared to be cleaning the outside of the ship. (PRO: "Ouroboros, Part II")

These devices were identified in the episode's closed-captioning as "photonix ship scrubbers".

Background Information

  • The photonic ship scrubbers on the Protostar bear a physical resemblance to exocomps, which were originally designed to perform menial tasks aboard starships and stations. (TNG: "The Quality of Life")
