Orion Nebula
The Orion Nebula, also known as Messier 42 or NGC 1976, was a diffuse nebula in the Beta Quadrant. This nebule was visible from Earth in the constellation Orion. It was approximately 1,344 light years (412 parsecs) from Sol.
An image of the nebula was on display in astrometrics aboard the USS Voyager in the years 2375, 2376, and 2377. (VOY: "Night")
The image was also on display in the Silver Blood copy of the USS Voyager in the year 2375, shortly before the ship was destroyed. (VOY: "Course: Oblivion")
A red nebula near a Borg world in System D43119, seen in "Scorpion", was modified from a Hubble Space Telescope image of the Orion Nebula. (Star Trek Monthly issue 31, p. 29)
The nebula's quadrant of origin was inferred from the location of other known astronimcal objects which were associated with the constellation Orion.
