Omicron IV

Omicron IV was the inhabited fourth planet in the Omicron system. This planet was located in the Omicron sector, Beta Quadrant.

Omicron IV went to a crisis that was similar to the one experienced by Earth in 1968, when the United States launched a nuclear warhead platform to maintain the balance of power after another major power placed a nuclear warhead in sub-orbit. Omicron IV was almost destroyed due to this.

When Gary Seven was confronted with the 1968 situation on Earth, he called it "the same kind of nonsense" as to what happened on Omicron IV, which the Beta 5 computer agreed was a correct analysis. (TOS: "Assignment: Earth")

This planet was only mentioned in dialogue.
In the novelization of this episode by James Blish in Star Trek 3, this planet was named Omicron III (β).
