Omicron Ceti, also known as 68 Ceti, was an inhabited planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant.

Components

This was a binary star system. The system's primary Mira (the proper name for Mira A) was a M-type red giant. The star's companion was the white dwarf Mira B.

In this system, there were at least three planets. One of the planets, Omicron Ceti III, was located in the system's habitable zone. (TOS: "This Side of Paradise")

After a failed attempt at colonizing Omicron Ceti III in the 2260s, the Federation would successfully attempt again and, by the mid-24th century, there was a thriving colony on the planet. By the early 25th century, this planet was a thriving tourist destination. (TOS: "This Side of Paradise"; TNG: "Eye of the Beholder"; PIC: "The Last Generation")

The Omicron Ceti system was visible from Earth in the constellation Cetus. This system was approximately 300 light years from Sol.

In 2366, in an alternate timeline, during the Federation-Klingon War, Omicron Ceti's position was labeled on a tactical situation monitor on the bridge and in the ready room of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise", okudagram)

A lost Federation colony on the fourth planet, Omicron Ceti IV, was seen in the comic book story Old Loyalties.
