Nucleotide resonance frequency
A nucleotide resonance frequency was a signal designed to literally activate DNA, a process which had the capability to stimulate otherwise inactive genes.
In 2375, a race of aliens residing in chaotic space used a nucleotide resonance frequency to activate a gene in Commander Chakotay, first officer of the USS Voyager, causing him to develop sensory tremens. The aliens communicated with Chakotay via the resultant hallucinations, giving him information with which Chakotay was able to plot a safe course out of chaotic space, in which Voyager had become trapped.
