Nictitating membrane

A nictitating membrane was a membranous anatomical feature of an amphibian's eyes.

In 2370, Data noted the newly-developed nictitating membranes on an apparently devolved Deanna Troi's eyes and identified her as now being an amphibian rather than a Human/Betazoid hybrid. (TNG: "Genesis")
