Natural resource

A natural resource was any material or object occurring in nature that could be used in manufacturing or to make money.

In 2366, Bhavani described the sudden appearance of the stable Barzan wormhole as the Barzans' "first true natural resource", while admitting their lack of experience or technology to take advantage of it, which the Federation did have. (TNG: "The Price")

In 2375, when Burkus explained the Moneans' protectiveness over their oceans, Kathryn Janeway said she understood, as the Federation was similarly protective of their own natural resources. (VOY: "Thirty Days")
