NBCUniversal Media, LLC is a private corporation formed in 2011 by the joining of interests of two public corporations, Comcast (the majority owner) and General Electric (GE, the minority owner). It is the successor company to NBC Universal, Inc. (originally written with a space, and a different legal entity), formed in May 2004 and then principally owned by GE.

Among the present corporation's many divisions are Universal Studios, Universal Networks (which includes Syfy), G4, and the NBC Television Network. NBC was the first network to air Star Trek in 1966, and with whom Universal had a longstanding industry partnership since the 1950s, which it formalized with the 2004 merger.
