Morphology was a characteristic of rock deposits.

In 2373, Enrique Muniz incorrectly classified a rock Miles O'Brien showed him on Torga IV as having the same morphology present in other rocks they'd examined. O'Brien corrected him, noting that the deposit he was indicating was more eroded than those previous. (DS9: "The Ship")
