A metabolic enzyme was a type of enzyme associated with the metabolism.

In 2377, Seven of Nine created a mixture of metabolic enzymes and protein extract to compensate for her malfunctioning alcove. Neelix suggested he make her a Talaxian omelette instead, saying although it wouldn't have as many enzymes, it would have a better taste. (VOY: "Imperfection")
