Mess
For the eating area, please see mess hall.
A mess was a dirty, untidy, or disordered condition. It was the opposite of cleaning.
The term could also be used to describe a clump of food. In 2364, before changing his mind and ordering a martini with two olives, L.Q. Clemonds ordered a thick Kansas City strip steak with country fried potatoes and a mess of greens. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone")
