In 2372, the planet was subject to a bio-survey conducted by Dr. Bashir and Chief O'Brien aboard the USS Rubicon. (DS9: "Hippocratic Oath")

According to the script, the pronunciation for Merik was "MER-ick". [1]
According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 75), the primary of the Merik (β) system was a F-class star. This system was a destination on the Gamma Quadrant Bio-Survey (2369-75).
