A medical encyclopedia was a comprehensive book on medicine.

In 2376, faced with a complicated case in which a cytoplasmic lifeform had attached itself to B'Elanna Torres, The Doctor noted that he'd have to study exobiology. When Tom Paris asked if he didn't already have that information in his database, The Doctor replied, "I may be a walking medical encyclopedia, but even I don't know everything.
