A main street, as its name indicated, was the primary street of a city, village, or town.

It was generally located in the city's business district, frequently near a plaza or city square.

In 2259, when the crew of the USS Cayuga was holed up at the Parnassus Beta colony's diner, Montgomery Scott told Captains Christopher Pike and Marie Batel that they could make it to the Gorn tower on foot as long as they stay off the main street, where they'd easily be seen by Gorn.
