METI

METI was a 21st century Earth organization pursuing communication with extraterrestrial species.

In 3190, Captain Burnham noted that METI had predicted that the Lincos language would be helpful in extraplanetary communication. (DIS: "Species Ten-C")

The real world METI organization was founded in San Francisco in 2015 to expand the scientific Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. In 2020, Christopher Pike actor Anson Mount joined its Board of Directors. [1]
In a tweet dated March 10, 2022, writer and co-executive producer Michelle Paradise wrote, "The combo of biology, chemistry, and linguistics in our last few eps was hugely complex, story-wise.
