Luyten's Star

Luyten's Star was a planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant. The star was named after the Dutch-American astronomer Willem Jacob Luyten.

This was a single star system consisting of the red dwarf primary Luyten's Star.

In this system, there was the planet P'Jem. Upon this world, the Vulcans founded the Sanctuary of P'Jem which lasted for thousands of years until its destruction by the Andorians in 2152. (ENT: "The Andorian Incident", "Cold Front", "Shadows of P'Jem")

History

The system was known to the Vulcans since at least the early 1st millennium BC. The construction of the Sanctuary of P'Jem, later consecrated to the memory and teachings of Surak, predated the Time of Awakening on Vulcan by over twelve centuries. (ENT: "The Andorian Incident")

Stellar cartography

The Luyten's Star system was visible from Earth in the constellation Canis Minor. It was approximately 12 light years from Sol.

In the 2150s, this system's position was labeled on an United Earth star chart which was displayed in several crew and guest quarters aboard the Enterprise. (Star Trek: Enterprise, set decoration)

In the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 45) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Stellar Cartography", pp. 18-19; "Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the system's primary was classified as an M-class star. In the 22nd century, this system was a destination on a Vulcan trade route.

As of 2025, this system had two confirmed planets and two candidate planets. The confirmed planets were Luyten c and Luyten b.
