A loan shark was a person who would lend money at exorbitant rates of interest, typically outside the law.

During World War II, Sal and Carmine were loan sharks. In an alternate timeline created due to temporal incursions by factions in the Temporal Cold War, Alicia Travers explained in 1944 that Sal and Carmine had been loan sharks before joining the American Resistance. (ENT: "Storm Front")
