Background information
These books are published by Random House and aimed at ages 2-5.
First created in 1942 as a joint effort between Western Publishing and Simon & Schuster, Little Golden Books were designed to provide affordable books to a growing market, much like Simon & Schuster's Pocket Books imprint. Costing just 25 cents, the initial run of twelve volumes sold three editions in just seven months.
In the 1950s, Simon & Schuster sold its interest to Western, who continued to produce the range until 2001, when it was sold to Random House.
In July 2018 Random House announced that the first of its Star Trek Little Golden Books would be released in 2019. [1]
