Label
A book labeled with young Archer's name and imaginary rank
A label was a tag affixed to something that gave details on its nature, ownership, etc.
As a child, Jonathan Archer owned a copy of The Cosmos A to Z that had a label inside identifying the book as being "from the library of Admiral Jonny Archer". (ENT: "Fusion")
In 2268, after having his wounds cleaned by Dr. Leonard McCoy with some Taos lightning, James T. Kirk told McCoy to label the alcohol "for external use only", as it stung. (TOS: "Spectre of the Gun")
All specimens in Dr. Mora Pol's laboratory had to be labelled in Cardassian while the lab was under Cardassian supervision. Odo, when first located, was labelled "Odo'ital", meaning "nothing". It later became his name. (DS9: "Heart of Stone", "The Begotten")
Isolinear rods were assigned different colored labels, each corresponding to a different function. (DS9: "Shadowplay")
In 2370, when Odo questioned how Quark could be certain that the contents of a set of desiccation discs were really the remains of the famous Ferengi Plegg, Quark pointed out that it said so on the label. (DS9: "The Alternate")
In 2371, Quark recognized the label on a bottle of Aldebaran whiskey Rom had drunk, identifying it as part of his private stock. (DS9: "Prophet Motive")
In 2375, while contemplating Julian Bashir's plan to walk through Luther Sloan's subconscious looking for the cure to the morphogenic virus, Miles O'Brien asked the doctor if he was going to look for a box labeled "the cure". Bashir said it might be that simple, or more surrealistic than that. (DS9: "Extreme Measures")
