LT-358

LT-358 was an uninhabited planet in a binary star system. Described as a "barren rock", it had a mountainous desert environment with a Human-breathable atmosphere and at least one large moon.

In 2381, Starfleet was scheduled to construct an outpost on LT-358, which an earlier probe had indicated possessed no indigenous lifeforms. Captain Carol Freeman convinced Starfleet Command to make this task the second leg of a "mission race" between her ship, the USS Cerritos, and the newly introduced automated starship USS Aledo, so as to demonstrate the continued viability of the California-class.

The Cerritos arrived at LT-358 first, but progress was stalled when Ensign D'Vana Tendi detected signs of microbial life in the soil. A subsequent self-awareness assessment conducted by Doctor T'Ana found that Tendi's readings were a false positive caused by a metaphasic charge, though the delay cost the Cerritos the race. However, Freeman later realized that the Aledo had skipped analyzing signs of life at LT-358, in violation of the Prime Directive, indicating a flaw in its artificial intelligence.
