Jules

Jules was Julian Bashir's childhood nickname, used by his parents Richard and Amsha Bashir.

A fifteen year old Julian stopped calling himself "Jules" in 2356 when he learned about the genetic enhancements his father had sought on his behalf, using his full first name instead. When he explained this to Richard in 2373, Richard asked him what difference it made (what he called his son.) Julian replied, "Jules Bashir died in that hospital because you couldn't live with the shame of having a son who didn't measure up!"

Later, when Richard had agreed to plead guilty to illegal genetic engineering, he called his son "Jules", then immediately corrected it to Julian, honoring his son's choice. (DS9: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume")
