Joseph M. Carey served aboard the USS Dauntless as an assistant chief engineer. In 2384, his name was listed with other crew members on an information panel in the ship's transporter room. (PRO: "Supernova, Part 1")

While he is not directly identified as being the same person as Joe Carey, the crew members mentioned on this list include other people who were identified as having died in Star Trek: Voyager. They are Kurt Bendera, Ahni Jetal, Timothy Lang, and Li-Paz. No explanation is given for how they are alive in 2384.
