Jeff W. Byrd
Jeff W. Byrd (born 24 September 1968; age 56) is a director who directed the Star Trek: Discovery fourth season episode "Rosetta" and the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds second season episode "Under the Cloak of War".
Byrd, a Brooklyn native, started his career as a protégé of director Spike Lee and worked in intern and production assistant positions on several of Lee's films, including Mo' Better Blues (1990), Jungle Fever (1991, with Brad Dourif), and Malcolm X (1992, starring Angela Bassett, with Albert Hall, Kate Vernon, and Craig Wasson).
In the 1990s, Byrd directed several R&B and hip hop music videos and a number of short films. In 2002, he directed his debut feature film, Book of Love. This was followed by the drama Final Breakdown (2002, with Renee E. Goldsberry), King's Ransom (2005, with Roger Cross), and A Beautiful Soul (2012, with Golden Brooks).
Byrd has, however, worked mostly in television. He directed Seventeen Again (2000, with Robert Hooks), Rhapsody (2000), and Jasper, Texas (2003, with Karen Robinson). He helmed episodes of series such as The Originals, Runaways (with Annie Wersching, Brigid Brannagh, and Ric Sarabia), Black Lightning (starring Cress Williams), Charmed, Dynasty (starring Alan Dale), Nancy Drew, and The Flash (with Milton Barnes).
