James Hatfield
James Hatfield (7 January 1958–18 July 2001; age 43) (also known as J.H. Hatfield) was an author whose Star Trek-related books include Patrick Stewart: The Unauthorized Biography and The Ultimate Trek Trivia Challenge for the Next Generation, both written with George "Doc" Burt.
He is also the author of Fortunate Son, a controversial biography of George W. Bush, originally published in 1999 by St. Martin's Press. Shortly after the book's initial publication, media reports emerged of Hatfield's criminal past. Citing these revelations and the author's damaged credibility, the publisher recalled the book. It was later republished by independent publisher Soft Skull Press; the process of republishing the book was the subject of the 2002 documentary Horns and Halos.
On July 18, 2001, his body was found in an Arkansas hotel room, appearing to have died of suicide through an overdose of prescription drugs. [1]
