Intercooler

An intercooler was a component of starship technology found on Constitution II-class and Galaxy-class starships.

The intercooler was on standby and called out during an engineering checklist prior to the launch of the refit USS Enterprise from drydock in both 2273 (Star Trek: The Motion Picture) and 2285 (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan).

On the Galaxy-class, the intercoolers were located in the warp nacelles. The intercoolers were labeled on the Master Situation Monitor found in Main Engineering of the USS Enterprise-D. They were listed among other components of the nacelles. (TNG: "11001001")

The term intercooler was first introduced as a starship component in the work of Franz Joseph, including the Star Trek Blueprints and the Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual.
