Inferna Prime

Inferna Prime was the inhabited prime planet in the Zeta Herculis system. The planet was located in the Alpha Quadrant and was eight days away from Deep Space 9 at the cruising warp speed of a Danube-class runabout.

History

In 2373, the Federation Grand Jury was convened on this world to hear a case concerning the Orion Syndicate. Quark was a witness in the case and was called to Inferna Prime to testify, but the Syndicate attempted to have him killed en route. (DS9: "The Ascent")

Stellar cartography

inferna Prime's system was visible from Earth in the constellation Hercules. It was approximately 35 light years (10.7 aprsecs) from Sol.

In 2259, the planet's location was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on a USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. This planet's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the United Federation of Planets. (SNW: "Spock Amok", "A Quality of Mercy")

The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. Inferna Prime was in or near to Federation space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

In 2401, the location of Inferna Prime was labeled on a star chart that was seen on the USS Stargazer's bridge viewscreen. The chart was used to show the location of the combined Starfleet-Borg armada and where it needed to go to face a galactic-level threat. (PIC: "Farewell")

In 3189, the location of Inferna Prime was denoted on a holographic star chart of the galaxy at Federation Headquarters. (DIS: "Die Trying")

In 3190, the location of Inferna Prime was labeled on a star chart used by Commander Paul Stamets for tracking the movement of the Dark Matter Anomaly through the galaxy. (DIS: "The Examples")

Background information

"in-FER-nuh" was the pronunciation for this planet's name from the script pronunciation guide. [1]

The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 363 identified Inferna Prime as a Federation world. StarTrek.com identified the world as a UFP member or as an associate member. [2](X)

Information on this world was derived from the episodes, the reference works Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library, and real-world sources. The reference works were used extensively in the creation of star charts seen in Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Lower Decks. The real-world information added to the article was current as of 2025; the Zeta Herculis system was a binary system.

The name of Inferna Prime's system came from the Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I") and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"). In 2378, Inferna Prime was listed as a Federation member.
