Background information
- This was Dayton Ward's first full-length Star Trek novel.
- Pocket Books editor John Ordover originally had plans to end the numbered novel series with a trilogy by Diane Carey, tentatively titled The Last Round-Up, which would have made up #98-100. However, this did not come to fruition, and Ward's book ended up closing the series.
