Ice shelf

An ice shelf was a large sheet ice that extended along the coastline from a glacier which formed a shelf that extended out over the surface of the ocean.

In 2152, Malcolm Reed retold the fate of the HMS Clement to Jonathan Archer, in which he explained how after it became trapped underneath an ice shelf, several compartments aboard the submarine flooded, including engineering. (ENT: "Minefield")
