Hyphen

A hyphen ("—") or dash was a punctuation mark used for joining words and/or numbers.

Dashes were used to in Starfleet prefix codes. In 2259, a time travelling Brad Boimler noted that he was on the USS Enterprise "dash nothing" (not -A or -D, that is), confusing Erica Ortegas and Una Chin-Riley. (SNW: "Those Old Scientists")

In 3189, as Paul Stamets attempted to spell out "my partner brought me out of a coma and all I got was this lousy t-shirt", he failed to mention the hyphen in "t-shirt". Stamet's partner, Hugh Culber, pointed out that the hyphen was missing. (DIS: "Far From Home")
