Hypergiant
Enterprise approaches a hypergiant

A hypergiant was a rare type of star that shared similar characteristics with a supergiant star, but was a hundred times more massive than Sol. The theoretical life span of a hypergiant was one to two million years. Like its supergiant companions, a hypergiant star would go supernova when it exhausted its supply of fuel and gravity crushed the inert remains.
In 2153, Enterprise NX-01 was the first Earth starship to research a red hypergiant in a range closer than ten light years; it was nearly a billion kilometers in circumference and was not expected to go supernova for another one or two hundred years. Their hull reached a temperature of 1,100 degrees, making it unsafe to approach any closer to the hypergiant. (ENT: "Cogenitor")
In 2384, the crew of the USS Voyager-A intended to dispose of a problematic prototype ship by launching it into a Class-B hypergiant, where the heat of the blue sun would make short work of it. (PRO: "Imposter Syndrome")
In 3190, Ruon Tarka theorized that the controller at the center of the Dark Matter Anomaly would require an energy source equivalent to a hypergiant star to stabilize the gravitational anomaly. (DIS: "The Examples")
