House arrest

House arrest was a type of imprisonment in which one was confined to one's home, rather than a penitentiary.

In 2399, Altan Soong informed Jean-Luc Picard that he would have to be put under house arrest. Sutra explained that if he were allowed freedom, he would have them doubting their convictions. (PIC: "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1")
