House Azure

House Azure was a faction of the Orion Syndicate. The House's name was relatively new as of 2382.

Unlike most Orions, the members of House Azure had blue skin, were patriarchal rather than matriarchal, and pronounced "Orion" as "Ore-eon". Some Green Orions commonly scoffed at the blue Orions and thought their uniforms looked ridiculous. (LD: "Dos Cerritos", "Shades of Green")

In 2270, blue Orion pirates attacked the SS Huron and stole its cargo of dilithium and strobolin. They were subsequently confronted by the USS Enterprise, which urgently needed the strobolin to treat Spock's choriocytosis. The Orion captain was prepared to destroy his ship and the Enterprise together to preserve the appearance of Orion political neutrality, but Captain James T. Kirk managed to capture him and force the Orions' surrender. (TAS: "The Pirates of Orion")

In 2382, a party from House Azure, led by K'Levin, sought to salvage a derelict Orion medical frigate on Alva IV. They came into conflict with another party from House Tendi, led by D'Vana Tendi, with the same goal. Tendi's group defeated the blue Orions by pumping laughing gas through the ship, though they took pains to avoid killing any of them. This caused House Azure to declare war on House Tendi, citing their "un-pirate-like conduct". (LD: "Dos Cerritos")

The inter-House conflict cut off the flow of loot into the Syndicate, drawing the intervention of Pirate Queen Sabor. She ordered the dispute settled via the ancient practice of a sailship race through the Excellon Nebula. The race ended in a tie after D'Vana destroyed the treasure that was its objective. This incensed Sabor, who commanded that the wealth of both Houses be seized, though she sniped that House Azure had barely anything to take anyway. House Tendi subsequently recovered by accepting an arrangement by Federation Captain Carol Freeman to officially handle the "wealth disposal" of the recently discarded wealth of Targalus IX, and hired on the blue Orions as menial labor.
