Hot flashes were a sensation of intense heat, sometimes experienced by Human females during menopause.

In 2381, after being publicly humiliated by her mother (Captain Carol Freeman)'s revealing that she got bad menstrual cramps, Ensign Beckett Mariner sarcastically suggested that she might tell Chief Engineer Billups to boost the environmental controls to help with Capt.
