Hook

A hook was a rod bent into a curved shape, typically with one end free and the other end secured to a rope or other attachment. There was also a barbed metal hook used for fishing.

In 2365, a hologram of James Moriarty compared himself to a fisherman and Katherine Pulaski to the worm on his hook; she was bait for Captain Jean-Luc Picard. (TNG: "Elementary, Dear Data")
