A highlighter was a marker used to call attention to a passage of text.

In 1996, blue and pink highlighters sat in a cup on Rain Robinson's desk. (VOY: "Future's End")

In 2000, Alexandria Books kept a blue highlighter next to the cash register. (VOY: "11:59")
