Hairball

A hairball was a wad of animal fur that was regurgitated by the animal following ingestion due to its grooming habits.

In 2370, Data's cat Spot coughed up hairballs on Geordi La Forge's carpet, much to La Forge's dismay. (TNG: "Force of Nature")
