Gothic fiction
Gothic fiction was a literary genre. By the 24th century, Aquiel Uhnari was one of the few people who still appreciated the genre; Geordi La Forge, however, was not.
Cold Moon Over Blackwater was an example of a gothic fiction story. When Uhnari asked La Forge if he'd read the book, he said no, explaining that he wasn't that interested in the genre. (TNG: "Aquiel")
Though it is not expressly stated, The Fatal Revenge may also be a gothic fiction book. At least, the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 3rd ed., p. 148 identifies it as such.
This genre may have experienced a revival under the name "neo-Gothic literature (β)", according to the Star Trek: SCE eBook War Stories, Book 1
