Googa was the name Ensign Beckett Mariner gave to a type of neural parasite that infested Brad Boimler in 2380. The parasite emerged from an exoskeletal husk and attached itself to the back of a person's head. It reproduced by altering its host's pheromones to make them chemically irresistible to potential mates. The parasite was sentient and capable of speech.

Possibly under the influence of one such parasite, Lieutenant Barbara Brinson became Boimler's girlfriend. After the parasite was discovered and removed, she broke up with him in favor of studying it further. (LD: "Cupid's Errant Arrow")

The googa may have originated from Vendu, as that was where Boimler and Brinson began their relationship.
