Good cop/bad cop

Good cop/bad cop was an interrogation method named for its use by law enforcement, in which one party approached a suspect sympathetically and another used a hostile approach.

In preparing to question ensigns Zier and Christina in 2259, Lieutenant La'An Noonien-Singh claimed "bad cop" to Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley's good cop. Chin-Riley's method included relating to Zier and offering her coffee, while Noonien-Singh's demeanor left Ensign Christina crying. (SNW: "Spock Amok")
