Gatekeeper

A gatekeeper was someone who guarded a gate and decided who could enter.

The Nechani believed that nessets were gatekeepers to the spirit realm. (VOY: "Sacred Ground")

Saint Peter was considered by some to be the gatekeeper of heaven. (TNG: "The Outrageous Okona")
