Gamma Vertis IV native

The natives of Gamma Vertis IV were a species from the Alpha or Beta Quadrant that were naturally mute.

In 2268, Captain Kirk likened Gem's species to this species due to the fact they were both mute. (TOS: "The Empath")

The Star Trek: Enterprise novel A Choice of Futures interprets the aliens seen in ENT: "Silent Enemy" (nicknamed "Shroomies") as the mute inhabitants of Gamma Vertis IV, calling them "Vertians." In Star Trek Online, they were referred to as the "Elachi."
