Gamal
Elder Gamal was a male Majalan doctor who lived during the mid-23rd century.
Gamal was quite proud of his people's advances in medical technology, including quantum bio-implants to repair internal damage; he considered state-of-the-art Starfleet technology, such as a subdermal scalpel, to be "butcher's tools".
In 2259, Gamal's son was chosen to be the First Servant and undergo the Ascension ceremony. While en route to Majalis from one of its moons, the shuttle carrying Gamal, the First Servant, and Minister Alora was attacked by a combat cruiser from the nearby colony on Prospect VII, attempting to kidnap the First Servant; the ship was disabled by the USS Enterprise and crashed on the moon. Gamal accompanied the boy to sickbay, where he helped attend to his medical needs. The chief medical officer, Dr. Joseph M'Benga, was particularly interested in Majalan medical technology, offering a "hypothetical case" of a child suffering from cygnokemia; his own daughter, Rukiya, suffered from that illness. Gamal answered that Majalan law forbade sharing their technology, but hoped a future alliance between Majalis and the Federation could benefit them all one day.
Thanks to investigations of the crashed ship and a linguistic examination of recovered data chips by Cadet Nyota Uhura, the Enterprise crew discovered that the attackers were of Majalan ancestry, and that Gamal himself was behind the kidnapping attempts. Held in the Enterprise's brig, Gamal admitted to first officer Una Chin-Riley that he had indeed tried to stop the First Servant's Ascension, because he knew it would involve his son's life being sacrificed to keep the Majalans' floating city in the air, and was distressed when he learned that his son had been returned to Majalis.
Afterward, Gamal requested a transfer to Prospect VII; despite having believed it a "planet of traitors", they had tried to help him save his son, and he regretted that he had failed. Before leaving, Gamal met with M'Benga to help develop a treatment for his "hypothetical case"; though Gamal warned it would not be a cure, M'Benga was hopeful it was the first step to one.
