Lieutenant Gaines was the tactical officer aboard the refit USS Enterprise-D in the anti-time future, serving under Admiral William T. Riker. Gaines was on duty when the Enterprise-D defeated two Klingon Negh'Var warship attack cruisers which had attacked the USS Pasteur near the Devron system. He later died when the Enterprise suffered a warp core breach. (TNG: "All Good Things...")

Lieutenant Gaines was played by actor Tim Kelleher.
